I have always loved new technology, and am a huge fan of anything that makes my life easier!  There are so many cool gadgets being developed these days that will turn your house into a “Smart Home”, from controlling the temperature of your home remotely, to having light bulbs that have 16 million colors to choose from, in one bulb!  Below are 5 cool smart home gadgets that will make your life easier (or at least more entertaining) in your Smart home.

Smart Lights

Current Amazon price: $29.95

Have you ever wanted to control your lights from your smartphone or tablet?  Maybe you’re nested comfortably into your couch and want to dim the lights, but don’t want to get up.  Well, now there is a bulb that you can control right from your phone!  The Flux Bluetooth Smart LED light bulb comes with 16 million supported colors, including warm and cool white, giving you the ultimate in lighting personalization.  You can schedule timers to turn the bulb on or off, come home to brighter or dimmer lights, or even have your lights change in sync with music!

Smart Locks

Current Amazon price: $199.00

Take control of who enters your home with a Keyless Home Entry system.  In only 10 minutes, you can swap out your existing deadbolt in exchange for an intelligent, secure smart lock that you can control from your phone.  As you get close to your smart lock, the lock senses your approach and automatically unlocks the door for you.  It can also tell when you leave, and automatically locks the door behind you.  There is also the added benefit of not having to worry about lost keys and getting locked out of your home!  The other super cool feature of this lock is being able to send invites to family, friends or house cleaners, giving them limited access, at specific times you set, to your home, without having to give them the key.

Control and Monitor the Temperature of your Home from Anywhere in the World

Have you ever been away on vacation and wanted to check on your home?  With the iComfort® S30 you can! The iComfort® S30 is a touchscreen thermostat that is wireless enabled, and allows you to control your thermostat from your smartphone, laptop or tablet.  You can setup alerts or reminders sent straight to your phone to inform you of any system problems. You can also set up the iComfort® S30 to automatically adjust the temperature of your home as you come and go, allowing you to save money on your HVAC system.  Visit Lennox to learn more information and find a dealer near you.

Monitor your Home Remotely

Current Amazon price: $229.50

Being able to see your home when you’re away provides tremendous peace of mind.  Dropcam allows you to place video cameras inside and outside of your home, and stream live footage over your smartphone, laptop or tablet.  You can also control the angle of the camera, with 130 degrees diagonal, with zoom and night vision.  Other features include two-way talk, intelligent alerts, and cloud video recording, to review footage and make clips securely.   I have a friend who purchased this to install in her home where she has a nanny that watches her kids, and she is able to view what is going on at home, while she is at work.

Smart Crock-Pot

I confess that I’m old school when it comes to smart gadgets. I think they’re great in theory, but in reality, I haven’t yet incorporated any in my home.
