Giving up Soft Drinks
As a kid who grew up in the 80s, I spent my childhood drinking sodas. Over my adolescence, teenage and college years, I developed a deep, ingrained habit of consuming sugary soft drinks. I gave up soft drinks around the time I had my first child, but as old habits die hard, I have found myself gravitating back towards them. I decided to really kick my habit, once and for all, I needed to substitute soft drinks for something healthier; something made with natural ingredients. That’s when I turned to Bigelow Benefits tea.
Making a Substitute
Tea is a great substitute for soda, because it can become part of your daily routine, while providing benefits for your body. Drinking tea regularly can help support everyday wellness and promotes a balanced lifestyle, which is sort of the opposite of what sodas do 🙂
To kick off my new habit of drinking tea, instead of buying soda, I stocked up on Bigelow Benefits tea. I chose Bigelow Benefits, because they have been creating tea for over 70 years, and their products are non-GMO, gluten free, blended and produced in the US, and they have fantastic flavor. Their new line of Benefits tea has seven blends to love:
- Calm Stomach – made with a blend of ginger, peppermint and sweet peach
- Sleep – made with a calming combo of floral lavender and sweet chamomile
- Stay Well – crafted with Echinacea, lemon and a relaxing herbal finish
- Balance – created with cinnamon and blackberries
- Refresh – made with green tea and matcha, with the addition of turmeric and a mild chili kick
- Radiate Beauty – crafted with blueberries and subtle aloe notes
- Good Mood – a complex blend of almond, blackberry and chocolate
With so many delicious, natural combinations to choose from, I can choose a new flavor of tea every day, to pair with my clean eating diet. I love how this small change helps promote other positive changes in my life. When I eat clean, and drink healthy drinks, I tend to feel better, which makes me more active throughout the day. When I am more active throughout the day, I tend to sleep better at night, and that improves my mood throughout the next day.
Create a DIY Tea Box
One of my first memories of drinking tea was with one of my good friends at a nice restaurant. She ordered hot tea, and the waiter came by with a wooden tea box, filled with an assortment of teas to choose from. I loved the presentation of tea, and it seemed like such a smart way to keep a variety of teas in one neat box.
I decided to create a DIY tea box, made with the recycled Bigelow Benefits tea container, to store my tea bags in. This is a super easy craft that requires minimal ingredients, talent, and time!
DIY Tea Box Supplies:
- A small or medium-sized sturdy box with a lid
- A box of Bigelow Benefits tea
- Spray paint
DIY Tea Box Instructions:
Start by opening the tea box. Take out the tea packets, and set aside. Unfold the box, to where it lays flat.
Place the unfolded tea box on cardboard (or another surface that you don’t mind getting spray paint on), and layer on spray paint until covered. Let one side dry, flip, and repeat.
Once fully dry, trim the extra, uneven sides off the box. Then measure the tea box against the sturdy box to determine the appropriate size to divide the box. Trim the tea box to fit as a divider inside the sturdy box.
Make sure not to trim off too much. You want it to fit snuggly.
Cut a small scrap of spray-painted tea box to fit and nest inside the bottom of the sturdy box. Glue the divider to the flat scrap. You can nest both inside the sturdy box to dry.
Once dry, place tea packets inside your DIY tea box!
Place your DIY tea box in a convenient place, so you can have access to tea on a daily basis!
I picked up my supply of Bigelow Benefits Stay Well tea at Smith’s. They have a fantastic variety of Bigelow teas to choose from, and I love that they have fresh fruit available (for free) that my children can munch on while I shop. It makes the whole shopping experience sooo much easier!
I hope you enjoy your new DIY tea box! Be sure to come back and let me know what flavor of Bigelow Benefits tea you love most!
