game day grub

Easy and Elegant Game Day Grub

We are big fans of sports in this house.  Well… my husband is a big fan of watching sports on the television, and I am a big fan of any excuse to make appetizers and elegant game day grub.

It seems like watching sports and eating delicious food go hand in hand. I love having company over to watch a big game, and cooking a variety of finger foods for our guests to enjoy.  After several different events we’ve hosted, I have noticed that our guests tend to love things they can dip!

onion rings and dip

I recently saw Alexia fries in the frozen section at Walmart, and after a quick peek at the ingredients, I decided it was definitely something I wanted to try!  They had a variety of upscale, high-quality options that would elevate our appetizers to elegant game day grub.  I also knew they would be relatively easy and quick to prepare, and with the addition of some homemade dips, our guests at the next big game would gobble them up!

I ended up making 3 different game day dips to accompany a variety of Alexia products.  Check ’em out:

creamy honey and sriracha fry dip

Creamy Honey & Sriracha Fry Dip

A creamy, sweet and spicy dip that pairs well with french fries!

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp honey (raw and local is best)
  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • Juice from half a lemon

Combine all ingredients in a bowl, and mix until well incorporated.  Serve along side Alexia’s straight cut or crinkle cut fries.

homemade thousand island dip

Homemade Thousand Island Dip

This sounds odd, but this was a favorite of my sorority sisters in college.  Onion rings dipped in thousand island dip!  It is even better when you make the dip fresh.

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/4 cup diced pickles
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • A squirt of sriracha (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl, and whisk until well mixed.  Serve alongside Alexia panko-coated onion rings.

creamy avocado fry dip

Creamy Avocado Fry Dip

Move over chips and guacamole, there’s a new favorite in town!  This creamy avocado dip is smooth and the perfect dip for a sweet potato fry. Talk about upscale game day food!

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Juice from 1 lime

Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor, and blend until smooth.  Serve with Alexia’s spicy sweet potato fries to impress your guests!

You can create all 3 appetizers in only 25 minutes, and it is enough to feed a good 10 – 12 people!
