I recently listened to The Power of Positive Thinking on audio book, and I was inspired by the sheer simplicity, yet brilliance of the philosophy. Instead of thinking “poor me” or “why does this always happen”, or “well, life would be so much better if…”, just thank God, or Mother Earth, or whomever it is you pray to, thank them for the blessings in your life, and think that more positive things are coming your way.
Because there is power to positive thinking. Life is 100% what you make of it. If you walk around, feeling like the world is against you, you’re going to have a rough go at it. The reality is that everyone goes through hardships and it is up to us to find the good in life, despite the challenges. I would much rather choose to be happy than angry, sad, or defeated.
And the real truth is that hatred, anger, resentment, “victim mentality”, it is all exhausting.
In the book, it talks about slowing down to a natural pace and listening to the sounds of nature. This can bring profound peace.
I decided to take that advice and have a morning meditation to start the day off on a positive note. Here is what I do:
Every morning I try to set aside 5 or 10 minutes to pray and meditate. I usually do it before my husband and daughter are awake. I make a cup of coffee, step outside in my backyard, and I listen to the birds chirp, feel the light air of the morning, and sit down. Then I pray. I pray that God is with me throughout my day and guides my decisions. I pray for my family. I pray for others who need prayers. And then I just sit, breathe in and out for 10 deep breaths, and I release all of the negative tension, stress and anger that has built up over the previous day.
What helps bring you peace in the early hours?
