Halloween is just around the corner, and the shelves in the stores are lined with enormous bags of candy. If you’re like me, you may not be thrilled about the idea of handing out or giving your family sugary, dyed and unhealthy candy. Luckily, you don’t have to skip out on the festivities, because there are a ton of great companies who are creating healthier treats for the holiday!
Enjoy Life is a wonderful company that is dedicated to providing safe snacks and baked goods for individuals with food allergies. Their products are all free from gluten, all nuts, and the 8 most common allergens. They do not contain any artificial ingredients, ever. They have a huge variety of products, including granolas, chewy bars, soft baked cookies, chocolate bars, and chocolate for baking. Their soft baked bars or granola bars would be a great idea for Halloween treats!
Annie’s Homegrown Organics makes a variety of convenient snacks, pastas and salad dressings. Their products are GMO free, organic, free of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives, and many of their products are even gluten free. They have a ton of great ideas for Halloween treats, including fruit bites, cheddar bunnies, fruit bars, pretzel bunnies, and bunny grahams. Many of their products come in individual serving sizes, making them idea for handing out to any age of ghosts and princesses that show up at your door.
YummyEarth Organics is devoted to creating healthy and tasty snacks that are free of high fructose corn syrup and harmful dyes. Their products are free from gluten, peanuts and tree nuts, while using organic ingredients. They sell individually wrapped organic lollipops, which would be great to hand out for Halloween. Their product line also includes sour beans, gummy bears, and fruit snacks.
Peter Rabbit Organics makes a line of fresh fruit and vegetable purees in a convenient squeezable pouch. My daughter will literally choose to eat the mango banana blend over a piece of candy. Their ingredients are all organic, and there is no filler, preservatives, dyes, additives, or anything else that shouldn’t be there. They can be a bit pricey, but you can occasionally find them on sale at Albertsons, 10 for $10.
Mini Water Bottles
While I don’t normally condone the use of plastic bottles, the little children are running around neighborhoods, eating candy, and could probably use some rehydrating!
Most of the kids I know actually enjoy fresh fruit, when they have access to it. Clementine oranges are a perfect healthy snack. They’re easy to peel, inexpensive and they have an exterior that protects them while the children are out running around.
Although a bit pricey, Eco Kids makes play dough that is handmade with natural ingredients, and naturally dyed with plant and vegetable extracts.
Flashlights are a great gift to give to children you know, to help keep them safe and their paths well lit as they trick-or-treat!
