Homemade Lip Scrub
A couple months ago, I received a jar of pomegranate lip scrub in my Ecocentric Mom Box. I was anxious to give it a try, since it smelled heavenly, and had hopes and promises of soft, smooth lips. However, I discovered that the lip scrub, which was made with all natural ingredients, also contained almond oil (which I am sadly allergic to).
I wasn’t going to let a little thing like an allergy stand in my way, so I went on a quest to create my own homemade lip scrub.
I looked through my natural ingredient beauty product stash, and grabbed some unrefined, organic coconut oil, the raw and unpasteurized honey, and a few teaspoons of organic sugar cane.
I also thought the scrub could benefit with a few drops of essential oils, so I selected peppermint and orange essential oil to help with the task.
Into the jar they all went, and after a quick swirl with a spoon, I was all set to exfoliate, moisturize and rejuvenate my lips with my homemade lip scrub!
Homemade Lip Scrub
Combine ingredients in small jar, stir until mixed. Apply a small amount to your finger, and gently rub into lips. Continue rubbing gently for 1 minute, then rinse with warm water.
Apply a layer of coconut oil or homemade lip balm to finish the job, and make your lips kissibly soft!
Store jar in refrigerator for up to a month, and use once per week for optimal results.
About the Ingredients:
Coconut Oil strengthens underlying tissue and removes excessive dead skin cells. It is an antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal, and contains antioxidants that help skin cell regeneration. It is also a beneficial moisturizer.
Organic Sugar Cane is abrasive enough to help remove dead skin cells and other impurities, which aids the coconut oil and honey to moisturize and renew the lips.
Honey is a wonderful skin moisturizer. It’s a natural antioxidant and can prevent skin from premature wrinkling caused from sun damage. It also has antimicrobial properties which promotes healing and prevents against infections.
Essential Oils have numerous and tremendous benefits for many different purposes. I chose to add 2 drops of peppermint essential oil and two drops of orange essential oil for a bright and fragrant lip scrub. Be sure to do research on safety and precautions before using essential oils.
