Hot Chocolate Recipe

Boxed macaroni and cheese.  When I first met my husband, I told him that I made the best macaroni and cheese.  My secret?  I made boxed macaroni and cheese, and added a little granulated garlic.

Things have changed a little since then.  First, I can now actually make the best homemade macaroni and cheese, and I have learned to think outside the box… errr… that is to say, I now know almost anything can be made from scratch.  And most of the time, it’s so ridiculously easy, you’ll be wondering why you ever paid a premium for a pre-made mix.

Take hot chocolate, for instance.  I have never, in my recollection, had anyone make me hot chocolate from scratch.  It has always been from a white packet, poured into water that was heated in the microwave, and then stirred.

Sure, there was the occasional variance: teeny marshmallows, occasional whipped cream out of a can, but the cocoa mix was always from a pouch.  Now, since I have a well-stocked pantry, full of the basic ingredients, I figured now was as good of time as any to learn how to make a hot chocolate recipe!  It was actually the perfect time, because Elle is really into watching me in the kitchen, and I want her to establish good habits.  Learning how to be self-sufficient  by making her own mixes will not only save her money, it will help her eliminate preservatives and additives from her diet.  Which is always a good thing.
