I received a product sample for purposes of this review – and I am giving my honest, unbiased opinion below! Norms Farms Elderberry Review

Norm’s Farms Review & Giveaway

It’s been about a year and a half since I had the privilege of reviewing Elderberry Life, and a few things have changed since then! First, Elderberry Life has changed their name to Norm’s Farms, and secondly, they’ve added some great products to their line!

About Norm’s Farms

Norm’s Farms is an American company that started out in Missouri.  They operate out of their 170-acre farm in Missouri and have expanded to work with small farmers in North Carolina.  They are the go-to resource for all things elderberries.

I have used their products for a year and a half now, and have been impressed with the quality of their products.  On a personal note, I have corresponded with one of the owners, and several of the employees, and they are kind and honest people.  They have tremendous customer service.

About Elderberries

Elderberries have been widely used, due to their medicinal properties.  I have most commonly heard them associated with fighting the flu – and there are some studies that prove their effectiveness.  In one study, “elderberry flavonoids bind to and prevent H1N1 infection in vitro” (source). Another study in 2011 showed that elderberry liquid extract is active against the influenza virus (source).

Elderberries are also contain nutrients, including fiber, vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, and potassium.

About Norm’s Farm’s Products

I was sent the sampler pack to try out, which included a bottle of elderberry extract, elderberry wellness syrup, elderberry jam, elderberry ginger pecan jam, blueberry elderberry preserves and elderberry jelly.  If you haven’t had much experience with elderberries, and want to try a sampling of different products, this is a great way to do that.  The sampler packs sell for $52.99, which gives you a $5 savings over buying the products individually.

Elderberry Jams, Jellies and Preserves

Norms Farms Review Jam

I have been having fun in my kitchen, trying out all of Norm’s Farms jams, jellies & preserves!  Sure, the first thing most people think about when they hear jam is probably toast.  But jams can do so much more than flavor bread.   Here are some of my favorites:

There is a good variety to pick from, as well.  There is the standard Elderberry Jam and Elderberry Jelly, which both go great with yogurt or oatmeal.  The jelly is a big lighter than the jam.

For a more complex flavor, Norm’s Farms offers their Elderberry Ginger Pecan Jam, and a Blueberry Elderberry Preserves.

Elderberry Extract

Norm’s Farms Elderberry Extract is a daily supplement one can take to load up on antioxidants, and help support the immune system.  In fact, the antioxidants found in this elderberry extract is higher than you’ll find in blueberries, acai, goji or pomegranate juice.

This Elderberry Extract is bottled in a glass bottle (no plastic toxins!), and the recommended daily dose is 1 tsp a day.

Elderberry Wellness Syrup

I like to stock up with natural supplements this time of year, to tide my family over through our illnesses.  As the case studies above suggested, elderberries may help with bouts of the flu, but it also may help sooth a sore throat, and boost the immune system.  Norm’s Farms has developed an Elderberry Wellness Syrup, made from elderberries, honey, cinnamon, and cloves, for some natural relief without the side effects that some medications have.

Dried Elderflowers

In addition to the sample pack, I was able to try out Norm’s Farms dried Elderflowers, and I even wrote a post about different uses for dried elderflowers.  To highlight some of my favorite uses, dried elderflowers can be used to make a healing lotion, a tasty elderberry lemonade, or even your own elderflower cough syrup.
