Roasted Broccoli Recipe with Orange and Garlic

Roasted broccoli is one of my favorite side dishes.  I love the natural crunch and saltiness that comes out when broccoli is roasted. I think I may even prefer the crunchy texture of a good roasted broccoli recipe to plate of french fries.

My four-year-old daughter, not so much. She says it smells like stinky feet.

But roasted broccoli is definitely a favorite in my home, among the adults, and it is a meal we prepare frequently.  Depending on the type of main dish I am preparing with my roasted broccoli recipe, I switch up the flavors that I add to the broccoli to suit the meal.

I am a huge fan of Asian food, and I love how the bright, sweet and tangy taste of orange shines brightly in lightly cooked or roasted vegetables.  That’s why I decided to pair roasted broccoli with freshly squeezed orange juice and minced garlic.  (Plus, I bought one of those fruit baskets from a friend’s child’s fundraiser, and I needed to use them up!)

Of course, I love fresh broccoli and steamed broccoli, almost as much as I love roasted broccoli.  I am hoping one of these days my daughter’s tastes buds will mature, and she will love broccoli as much as I do.  Or, at the very least, she’ll be able to tolerate it.
