There is this terrific program created by theleangreenbean.com that I have fallen completely in love with. Do you remember when you were in elementary school and your teacher would assign you pen pals from across the country/world? It was the best!! Pen pals were very cool.

The Lean Green Bean has created a Foodie Pen Pals program. What?! Pen pal + food = the most amazing invention ever!! It is pure genius!

Here is how it works: You sign up before the first of the month, then on the 5th of the month, Lindsay (the creator of the program) pairs you with another “foodie”. You send a wonderful box filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written.

I have participated 4 times now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one! I love getting mail, and I love food, so it combines two great passions of mine 🙂

This month, my box came from Anne in Pennsylvania, and put together a fantastic box for me.  Check it out!

Septembers foodie pen pal

  • An Italian Pepper: Anne’s friend picked her up a pepper when she was in Italy, but lucky for me, Anne doesn’t like spicy foods.
  • Funni Barbeque Ancho Chile Seasoning: This was an interesting chile rub blend that has notes of cocoa, and smells amazing.
  • Bauman’s Apple Butter: This Apple Butter is local to Pennsylvania, and I can’t wait for Elle to try it! It’s perfect for fall.
  • Tuscan Picnic Sample Packet: Anne is friend with celebrity chef, Maria Liberati, who handcrafts this Tuscan herb and spice blend.  It smells amazing, and I can’t wait to try it on roasted chicken and potatoes.
  • Herr’s Extra Thin Pretzels:  You can’t go wrong with pretzels!
  • Jasmine Green Tea: I told Anne that I am learning and enjoying how to make hot tea blends, so she sent me a great jasmine green tea to try.

I can’t wait to try everything! Thank you Anne, for a wonderful foodie pen pal box!!

Have you ever participated in the Foodie Pen Pal program?
