This year, I didn’t set any specific New Year’s resolutions, but I did set some goals. I spent the second half of 2015 taking care of a colicky newborn, moving into a new house, and going through a divorce. It was a challenging 6 months, and I saw 2016 as a fresh start! I have been manifesting good things for my life and putting healthy goals in place to help me achieve happiness!
One of the biggest goals for 2016 is to be physically healthy. I want to feel great, and the surest way to feel great is to take care of myself. So far, I have been rocking this goal! I am not dieting, but I am down 10 pounds, fit into a pair of shorts that I haven’t been able to wear in 4 years, and I feel amazing. Here are the steps I am taking to help me feel healthy.
Staying Healthy in the New Year
Cut out the Junk Food
Good food is a passion of mine, and thankfully, I love to cook. After my divorce, and figuring out how time consuming single parenting is, I got into a bad habit of cruising through the drive-thru to grab breakfast and lunch. This year, I have been focused on meal prep to make sure I have healthy food in my fridge, ready to grab on my way out the door. This has helped tremendously! I am eating much better food, saving a ton of money, and my clothes fit better.
I also gave up sodas. Again. It has been one of the hardest habits to kick, but as there are a lot of negatives with sodas, and they have absolutely no nutritional content, I finally said enough was enough. No more sodas.
I love exercise. I do. My problem is not having any time to commit to doing it.
I have a friend who was telling me that she does 10 squats every time she visits the lady’s room, and sneaks in little bursts of exercise throughout the day, so cumulatively, she is getting in about 30 minutes a day. I thought that was such a good idea! I have started incorporating little bits of exercise at various points throughout the day, and most days, make an effort to park farther away from my building at work. The more I do, the more I want to do, and I find myself prioritizing time in my day to devote to being active .
Take a Vitamin
Anyone with kids in school or daycare (or, like me, both) knows that kids have a lot of germs! This time of year, it seems like one of my kids is always sick, and I inevitably catch whatever they have. I started taking Nature Made® Vitamin C, to help support my immune system. I usually like to wait until they go on sale to stock up, but I started shopping at Walmart for my vitamins, minerals and supplements, and with their everyday low prices, I can buy them year round.
I trust Nature Made® vitamins because they are the nation’s #1 best-selling brand to help support nutritional gaps 1. Nature Made® is also the #1 Pharmacist recommended supplement brand in 9 categories 2.
Meditation is so helpful for me to manage my stress in a positive way. On a daily basis, I take 5 minutes to sit in a quiet room, clear my thoughts, and breathe deeply, in and out. I always thought meditation was hard, but when I was pregnant last year, I discovered that it was in fact, very easy to incorporate into my daily routine. If I ever feel overwhelmed, panicked, or even a little off, I meditate.
Positive Self Talk
No one is more well versed in my flaws than me. I could list, in detail, my shortcomings and things that bother me. But, I have started making a conscious effort to stop doing that! I no longer say anything bad about myself, to myself or anyone else. Instead, I refocus my thoughts on positive things about me.
Staying focused on my health and well-being keeps me motivated. I signed up for Nature Made’s Daily Boost to help me stay focused on my goals.
I encourage you to sign up and be a part of the program as well!
