A few months ago, I had a friend tell me about Walmart’s grocery pickup program. She is a mother of two young children, and was amazed at the convenience of the program. I finally gave it a shot this past weekend, and have so many good things to say about it!
Walmart Grocery Pickup Review
If you haven’t heard of Walmart’s grocery pickup program…
Here’s how it works:
- Browse groceries, add them to your online cart, and checkout online. You select a specific 1-hour time to pickup your groceries.
- Drive to your assigned Walmart.
- Park in a designated spot, call a number, and a few minutes later, someone comes out and loads your car with your groceries.
Sounds amazing right? It really is!
Is Walmart’s grocery pickup free?
Yep! Walmart does not charge for this amazing service. It is completely free! You pay Walmart’s everyday low prices, someone else loads up the groceries, and you’re in and out in just a few minutes.
My Walmart Grocery Pickup Review
On Saturday night, after my kids were in bed, I put together my meal plan (grab a free meal planner printable here!). I visited Walmart.com, and shopped for everything I needed online. I found all of my favorite brands and even discovered a large organic selection. Once I had everything I needed in my cart, I was able to see how much my groceries were, before I checked out.
As a person who budgets religiously, I loved being able to see my total, and make any adjustments, before I checked out.
Once I checked out, I selected an hour time-slot to pickup my groceries the next day, and then I received an order confirmation.
The next day, about 30 minutes before I was due to pick up my groceries, a very nice lady from Walmart called me and said my order was ready. She said I could pick up my groceries at any time; I just needed to give them a 10 minute warning.
I drove to Walmart, and parked in one of four designated pickup spots, right next to an exterior door. I called the number on the sign, and a couple minutes later, someone carted out my groceries and loaded them in my car. The best part was that my 1 year old son was asleep at the time, and got to sleep through my entire “grocery trip”!
What I Thought
I was a little apprehensive about buying raw meats, produce, dairy and frozen products. I thought maybe they would be warm by the time I received them, but they weren’t. My frozen green chile was still very solidly frozen by the time I made it home. My produce was fresh, meat was high quality and the dairy was cold (and well within the expiration date). All of my concerns about things that could disappoint me with Walmart’s grocery pickup never materialized.
I was super impressed. I was telling a few colleagues about it at work today, and so many people seemed genuinely interested in my experience, so I wanted to share it with you. Walmart didn’t pay me to write this post – I just wanted to share this cool program!
For busy moms who don’t want to bring their children to the store, for individuals who have a hard time getting around, and for anyone else who just doesn’t want to go into the grocery store, this program is awesome!
