Now that it’s February, Valentine’s day is coming up quickly! I happen to be single this year, so I am treating myself to a day of pampering! I am planning on taking a long epsom salt bath, exfoliating and moisturizing my skin with this chocolate facial scrub, and watching a romcom or two.
I love homemade facial scrubs, because I can go into my fridge and pantry, pick out nourishing ingredients, and make an inexpensive and healing scrub. In line with Valentine’s day, I decided to make a chocolate facial scrub, using pure unsweetened cocoa, raw oats and organic coconut oil.
Here’s why I chose these ingredients:
Unsweetened Cocoa – Cocoa has antioxidant properties and reduces inflammation. Quick side note – that article also says cocoa aids in weight loss by improving mitochondrial biogenesis. A good reason to put some raw cocao nibs in your morning oatmeal ๐
Uncooked Oats – oatmeal has been considered safe and effective as a treatment for a myriad of skin conditions, because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It also provides a gentle exfoliation that feels great on the skin.
Organic Coconut Oil – Coconut oil has shown to be effective as an antibacterial, and also provides rich and lasting moisture to the skin.
Once you combine these three ingredients together, you have a chocolate facial scrub that leaves you with clean, exfoliated, and ultra moisturized skin. You will love the way your face looks and feels after treating yourself to this!
Chocolate Facial Scrub
- 1/4 cup uncooked oats
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tsp unsweeted cocoa
In a food processor or blender, gently blend oats to break them up a little, but not so much that it turns into powder. Transfer oats to a small bowl, and mix together with coconut oil and unsweetened cocoa.
Use a tablespoon or two of the chocolate facial scrub, and gently rub into the facial skin and neck. Leave on for 15 minutes (you could whiten your teeth while you’re waiting). Rinse off with luke-warm water, and gently towel face dry.
Now tell me your skin doesn’t look and feel amazing?!
You can store this in a clean container with a lid (such as a mason jar) for up to 3 months. No need to refrigerate.
Don’t forget the kids!

I love this gift idea! I also love it as a treat for myself, though I might be tempted to eat it instead of clean my face with it. ๐

This facial scrub is such a great gift idea. I’ll be making up a big batch for my teen daughters and friends. (Oh, and a few cute Sharpie dot jars, too ๐ )
