Homemade Skin Moisturizer
When I think of skin moisturizers, I usually think of creams or lotions that can be applied to the delicate facial skin, to keep the skin smooth and hydrated.
For the longest time, I used to buy expensive facial cream, and it did an okay job of moisturizing my face, but I still had bouts of dry skin, especially around my nose.
Once I started making a lot of my own facial skin cleansers, and body lotions, I stopped buying moisturizers at the store, and used my homemade recipes instead.
I really love how all of them work, but I use different recipes, depending on the season, and what supplies I have at the time. Here are a few homemade skin moisturizers that I use on a regular basis.
Whipped Coconut Oil
This is an easy recipe to make, and you only need a few ingredients on hand. I like this as a lighter homemade skin moisturizer, and it would probably work better with someone that has combination skin, or at least, not overly dry skin.

Lavender Body Lotion
This is a creamier, less oily homemade skin moisturizer, that can be for the whole body. I have used this for the face, and it works great!
It is good for applying under makeup, and hydrating your skin all day long.

Homemade Lotion Bar
This is perhaps, the easiest of the homemade skin moisturizers to apply, because it is in a solid form, and goes on smoothly.
I love making homemade lotion bars during the winter, because they are ultra moisturizing.
They are easy to throw in a baggie and add to your purse to take with you on the go!
Olive Oil or Coconut Oil
Perhaps the most under-rated homemade skin moisturizer is simply a little olive oil or coconut oil.
It takes some getting used to, since it is an oil, but straight olive or coconut oil is great for your skin, and for many people, it is a sufficient facial moisturizer all on its own.
Olive oil also doubles as an effective facial cleanser, so for simplicity’s sake, there is nothing easier than that!
Here are some other wonderful recipes from bloggers on the webspace:
- Homemade Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (without Coconut Oil) by LiveSimply.me – this is essentially a shea butter moisturizer with the addition of a specific blend of essential oils.
- DIY Healthy Face Moisturizer by SayNotSweetAnne.com – made with aloe vera gel, beeswax, almond and coconut oil and made in a blender!
- Simple Homemade 3 Ingredient Facial Oil Moisturizer by Crunchy Betty – you pick the oil base, add in a concentrated nourishing oil, and finish it off with a custom healing essential oil. This is a great guide if you have specific skin issues you want to address (scars, aging skin, etc.)
- “Oh, Wow!” Organic Moisturizer by HealthyBlenderRecipes.com – This recipe is a little more involved, but looks luscious. It’s made with apricot kernal oil, jojoba oil, cocoa and shea butter, and some other good oils and extracts.
