Ketogenic Diet
Right before last Christmas, I started following a ketogenic diet. If you’re new to the idea of ketogenic, it basically means intentionally eating foods that are high in fat, low in carbohydrates, and adequate in protein.
The Right Ingredients for a Keto Smoothie
It’s hard to make smoothies keto-friendly, because smoothies are generally sweet. Many smoothie recipes have lots of sugar (think fruits), which is not keto-friendly.
I decided to leverage the deliciousness and richness of dairy to make this keto smoothie recipe a favorite!
In this recipe I used whole milk and whole Greek yogurt. Adding dairy foods into recipes is a simple way to add protein, calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D.
Keto Smoothie Recipe {with Chocolate & Chia Seeds}
Start by soaking 2 tbsp of chia seeds in 3/4 cups of water for 5 minutes.
Next, grate 2 tbsp of dark chocolate.
Add 5 ice cubes to a blender, then pour in milk.
Add in creamy Greek yogurt.
Then add in remaining ingredients.
I like to add stevia for some sweetness (this step is optional).
Blend until smooth. Pour into a glass jar and top with a little more grated chocolate (if you’re feeling fancy).
The Stats:
For each serving of this keto smoothie recipe, it contains:

- 6.5 net grams of carbs
- 14.4 grams of protein
- 268 calories
Not Just For Breakfast
Smoothies are traditionally consumed during breakfast, but they’re really a perfect snack that can be enjoyed all day long. I love doubling (or tripping) this recipe, then storing it in a mason jar to bring with me to work for an afternoon snack.
One thing I really love about this keto smoothie recipe is that it is nut-free. For those who suffer from nut allergies, this is a great option!
