My kids are headed back to school next week, and I am implementing a few things this year to make our mornings go a little more smoothly. Specifically, this year we are going to use a Kids Morning Routine Checklist. This will help keep them on task and ensure everything is done before school.
My children are 6 and 2, so I developed a Kids Morning Routine Checklist that has both pictures (for my 2-year-old) and words (for my 6-year-old). The items on our checklist are:
- Go Potty
- Brush Teeth
- Brush Hair
- Get Dressed
- Make Bed
- Eat Breakfast
I purposefully placed “Eat Breakfast” at the bottom of the list, because my kids love Horizon® Yogurt Cups, and it’s almost like a reward for checking off every item on their checklist.

How to Create a Kids Morning Routine Checklist
Start by printing out this free Kids Morning Routine Checklist printable.
Laminate the checklist.
Punch a hole at the top of the checklist and link a dry erase marker through the hole (you can use a string for this). This enables children to cross off items as they go through their morning routine.
Use tape or some other adhesive to hang the laminated Kids Morning Routine Checklist. It’s a good idea to hang the checklist in a place that’s easily visible by your children. I printed out two separate checklists and hung them on the door of each of my children’s room.
When the child gets home from school, they can get a wet cloth and easily wipe away the morning’s checklist and have a clean list for the next morning!
Breakfast Options for Kids
My children are both big yogurt eaters, which can be a great thing as long as I’m careful about the yogurt I buy. I always prefer to have Whole Milk yogurt, that doesn’t have any artificial flavors or colors.
When I discovered that Horizon (one of my favorite brands) was making yogurt cups, I was super excited! Not only is their yogurt made with whole milk, which gives it a creamy, delicious texture, but it also offers live and active cultures. Horizon Yogurt Cups are a treat that any mom can feel good about.
Horizon Yogurt Cups come in 6-ounce containers that are convenient and easy to serve at breakfast, pack as a side for lunch, or to serve as an after school snack. They come in 5 kid-approved flavors:
- Vanilla Yogurt Cup
- Strawberry Yogurt Cup
- Blueberry Yogurt Cup
- Raspberry Yogurt Cup
- Key Lime Yogurt Cup
Where to Pick Up Supplies
I picked up Horizon Yogurt Cups, and all of the supplies to make this Kids Morning Routine Checklist at our local Walmart. As a mom, I am always looking for the best deals and lowest prices, and Walmart always delivers!

Chore Charts is really work.
I am a single mother with three children. The evening and morning routine is important. In the evening, children collect backpacks and prepare clothes. They Wake up in the morning, wash their face, brush their teeth, make the bed, etc. We use the Manini app and we have set up a morning and evening routine. Children see tasks, complete them, and mark them as completed. It is a huge relief for parents and children when the morning starts easily. And I have time to take self-care))))

Its always nice to have a list at home to be more organize. If I am a mother too which I am not yet hopefully soon. I would want this list in my household as well.

We got so far off our normal routine during the summer. Part of me is thrilled about that because we needed a break. But your checklist will help all my little people get back in the swing of things.

Drives me crazy when our son can’t see anything or can’t hear anything… because of tablet. Never ending fights. When I was at his age we didn’t care about anything just being outside with friends. Now, for the first time I’m willing to admit that some app can be helpful for parenting as well. We started using Happy Kids Timer. It resolved the issue with morning routines and I’m sure he doesn’t forget any of the activities. We paid a little and adjusted the order and duration for predefined activities. It was worth to pay to have more peaceful mornings.

I love this little print out! My sister has something similar for the kids and they get a star when they complete a task – certain amount of stars gets you $20 to spend at kmart or something like that

My kiddos and I have a similar routine: potty, feed the dogs, let the dogs out, eat breakfast. We homeschool so we luckily have a little more leeway in our routine!
