Make your own Lush Bath Bombs at home with this DIY Lush Bath Bomb Recipe!
Lush bath bombs are really awesome, aren’t they? They are large, they smell amazing, and they have really fun colors that make bath time more relaxing and fun.
The only problem is the bath bombs can cost as much as $7+ a pop, which makes for a pricey bath time experience, if you do them regularly.
My solution? To make bath bombs myself!
I have been making a ton of bath bombs lately, and decided to make one that gives as good of an experience as Lush bath bombs.
These bath bombs are large, they smell heavenly, and they even have naturally colored Epsom salt on top. These are easy enough for anyone to make at home with a few ingredients and about 10 minutes.

Lush Bath Bomb Recipe
First, grab your ingredients:
- 1/4 cup Epsom salt
- 1/2 tsp mica powder (optional)
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup corn starch
- 1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
- 20 drops essential oil (optional)
- 1/2 tsp water
Start by mixing together the Epsom salt and mica powder. I used two different colors, so I split the Epsom salt between two bowls and used 1/4 tsp of mica powder in each.
If you’re not using mica powder, skip this step. Reserve 1 tsp of the colored Epsom salt
Next, mix together baking soda, remaining Epsom salt, citric acid, and corn starch. Add in coconut oil and essential oils, mix thoroughly. Slowly add in water, mixing well.
The mixture should be the consistency of wet sand, holding together when you press it together.
Add a small amount of the reserved colored epsom salt and sprinkle it in the bottom of the bath bomb mold.
If you’re using multiple colors, you can layer them.
Pack both half of the bath bombs with mixture, slightly over filling each half. Firmly press halves together and set aside on a piece of parchment paper.
Let the bath bombs set for at least 15 minutes and up to 2 hours. Use a spoon to gently tap the sides of the mold, then remove the bath bomb.
Let bath bombs dry for 24 hours before storing in a container away from water. Bath bomb will last for up to 6 months.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Long do Homemade Bath Bombs Last?
Homemade bath bombs will last up to 6 months when kept in a container away from water.
Do I have to add Mica Colorant? Can I use Food Dye Instead?
Adding mica colorant to this recipe is completely optional (although, it’s pretty fun!). These bath bombs turn out beautifully without the addition of mica.
I have seen some bloggers use food dye in their bath bomb recipes, but I find it doesn’t mix well and the results aren’t reliable. I personally wouldn’t recommend it.
How to get Bath Bombs out of Mold
Let the mold sit for 15 minutes. Use a spoon to tap the outside of the mold, on both sides, to loosen the bath bomb. Open the mold and gently remove the bath bomb and place on parchment paper to dry, for 24 hours.
What Essential Oils are Good for Bath Bombs?
I love adding essential oils to bath bombs because they make them smell great, and are all natural! Many essential oils are great for bath bombs, including:
- Lavender essential oil
- Rosemary essential oil
- Geranium essential oil
- Tea Tree essential oil
- Chamomile essential oil
- Peppermint essential oil
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Rose essential oil
Are Bath Bombs Safe for Kids?
Yep! Bath bombs are made with natural ingredients (no chemicals or artificial ingredients) so they are safe for kids.
If your child does have any allergies, be cautious of what essential oils or other oils you add to your bath bombs. For example, if your child has a tree nut allergy, don’t use almond oil in the bath bombs.
