Switching from cleaning products to more natural products can help make your home healthier while doing great things for the environment. Here are my favorite natural cleaning products for the home.
It has been 9 and a half years since my daughter was born, and about the same amount of time that I ditched the commercial cleaning products and opted for more natural products instead.
The reason I started looking for more natural cleaning products was that my baby was so sensitive to the chemicals in commercial products. If she crawled on the floor after I used Pine Sol, she would break out in a rash.
I started looking into the safety of cleaning products and found the Environmental Working Group’s Cleaning Guide, which ranks cleaning products from A to F. This guide gives shows you if your cleaning products should cause concern for a whole myriad of issues, including asthma, skin allergies, reproductive toxicity, cancer, or environmental issues, to name a few. It’s a completely free resource, so I recommend checking it out!
Natural Cleaning Products for the Home
In the last 9.5 years, I’ve come to use only a handful of cleaning products for all of my cleaning. Here’s a list of the natural cleaning products I use in my home.
Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Soap
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Dish Soap works great and is better on the environment than many other top brands of dish detergent. The cool thing is you can do more than just wash dishes with this soap!
Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds Liquid Cleaner is a great alternative to popular pine cleaners packed with harsh chemicals. This concentrated cleaner is truly multi-purpose and a great addition to your home cleaning supply cabinet.

Steam mops are an ideal cleaning tool. With just the power of steam, you can clean, disinfect and deodorize almost every surface in your home without chemical cleaners – just water!
I love essential oils when I make my homemade natural cleaning products. Not only do they smell great, without additives, but some like tea tree oil can actually add to the cleansing and disinfecting properties!
There are so many great brands out there now that I don’t stick to just one, but I love this kit because it’s made right here in the USA and it’s 100% pure therapeutic grade.
Microfiber cloths are a must for natural cleaning. They work beautifully with just water, but you can also use natural cleaning products as well.
They are washable and reusable over and over so you’re sure to save money as well. No more paper towels!
Glass Spray Bottles
When making your own homemade cleaning products you’ll want good quality glass spray bottles. Plastic will work too, but often essential oils and plastic can interact and degrade so glass is best.
I love learning how to create things from scratch, so I know what ingredients go into everything from homemade face scrubs to clean eating recipes. I enjoy sharing my favorite recipes with other families so they can have a healthier home, too!
