Last year, I planted basil in the ground for the first time. Prior to that, I always potted it, so I was blown away at how big the basil plants grew! They were easily 6x larger than their potted counterparts. I was overwhelmed with the amount of basil I had, and wasn’t sure how I would manage to eat enough caprese salads or margherita pizzas to use up my abundant supply. As much as I love those recipes, I needed to come up with some more uses for fresh basil!

I ended up making pesto and freezing it, which worked out great. I had “fresh” pesto for sandwiches and pasta in the middle of December! As my supply of basil kept coming, I decided to find some delicious uses for fresh basil from my favorite bloggers, along with some of my favorite recipes. Here is a round-up of the best fresh basil recipes I could find. Enjoy!
Uses for Fresh Basil
I recently moved into an apartment, and unfortunately can’t plant basil directly into the ground. I did get a hearty plant and put it in a pot on my patio. As there is only one person in my house who likes basil (yours truly), this one plant seems to be perfect for me. Someday though, when I move back into a house, I will have basil a plenty, and will be looking for more uses for fresh basil.
If you have any favorite uses for fresh basil, I would love to hear them! Please share your favorite recipes or uses for fresh basil in the comments below 🙂
