Considering the world has shut down, and we’re all supposed to stay home, movie night probably became a recurring activity in your home. Cuddling up in your pajamas and watching movies as a family is fun by itself, but sometimes we all want a new experience. We put together a list of ways to make family movie night more fun and hopefully make quarantine a little easier for everyone. Read our guide below to take your movie night to the next level.
Everyone should have a say on the movie
Everybody has their favorite movies and genres, but everyone also must bend on their preferences a little, and that includes yourself. Remember, this is a family movie night. In other words, the family should choose the movie together—it’s more enjoyable for everyone that way. If you have a list of movies and you just can’t choose which to watch, write the titles on small pieces of paper and pull one from a hat. The old hat trick works every time.
Use the movie as your theme
Once you’ve chosen a movie as a family, fully immerse yourself in the movie by dressing up like your favorite character or something that’s relevant to the movie’s era. If you’re watching Peter Pan, for example, you can dress up like a pirate family. Kids love to dress up and act out their favorite scenes, and they love it even more when their parents join them. To make movie night even more fun, you can make snacks that fit the theme of the movie, and of course, popcorn!
Include some activities
As a parent, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that kids have relatively short attention spans; it’s no different during movie night. Instead of handing your kid an electronic device, create some activities that fit the theme of your movie. Get some cardboard and help your kids turn it into a pirate ship for a Peter Pan night. And if you have boys, the cardboard will become a sword at some point in the evening.
Create a cinema-like experience
Who doesn’t love going to the movie theater? Between the dim lights, the huge screen, giant buckets of popcorn, and the surround sound, it’s a full experience, to say the least. What if we told you that you could recreate that experience at home? It’s true. With the basic items for a home entertainment system, you too will feel like you’re in the theater.
If you use these ways to make family movie night more fun, we’re confident you’ll continue to have more movie nights even after COVID-19. And what’s better than spending quality time with your family? Exactly—nothing!
