Always Running into Things
Ever since I was a child, I seem to be constantly bumping into things: doorways, table corners, chairs, desks… it’s a little insane. At one point, I think I googled “always running into things”, and ended up reading an article on people who are mentally distracted. Which certainly rings true for me – at any given moment, I have 30 different things running through my head:
- Did I turn in Elle’s permission slip?
- Has the water bill been paid? Or is that on direct draft now?
- Are there still clothes in the dryer from Sunday?
Being a working parent, I am juggling a gazillion balls all at the same time. So, it does make sense that while I’m walking around, preoccupied with the to-dos running through my head, I may not always see what’s right in front of me. Like, tables and doors. It happens.
As a result of my “always running into things”, my legs are perpetually covered with bruises. It can be a bit embarrassing, and has lead to me wearing leggings with dresses, because my pale skin + multiple bruises doesn’t look super sexy.
Essential Oils for Bumps and Bruises
I love creating homemade remedies for minor ailments, so I decided to craft a roll on remedy for bumps and bruises. I used some of my favorite essential oils that have natural soothing properties, which may help lessen the duration, swelling and pain associated with minor bumps and bruises:
- Geranium Essential Oil – for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and pain management properties (source 1)
- Lavender Essential Oil – historically known for its antibacterial, carminative (muscle relaxing) and anti-inflammatory properties (source 1 and 2)
- Wintergreen Essential Oil – for its analgesic properties (source)
Safely Diluting Essential Oils
Most, if not all essential oils should be diluted before applying directly to the skin. I use a base of fractionated coconut oil, but could also use any carrier oil, such as olive oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, and almond oil.
This remedy uses a 5% dilution ratio. To learn more about safe dilution ratios for essential oils, check out this article.
(You may notice that I link to a lot of Simply Earth oils in my posts. I do this because I don’t like recommending over-priced oils! Simply Earth makes high quality, all natural, pure sourced products that are actually affordable.)
