Home Made Alfredo Sauce
When I was growing up, home made alfredo sauce with grilled chicken and angel hair pasta was one of my favorite dishes. As I got into college, I used to buy the jarred alfredo sauce, and even as a poor college student who would eat pretty much anything that was put in front of me, the jarred sauce was such a let down. If you have ever made home made alfredo sauce from scratch, or ever had anyone make it for you, then you know what I am talking about.
Around the time I met my husband, probably my junior year in college, I wanted to be a good girlfriend and learn how to cook for him. A couple of my friends and I would get together every Thursday night to make a feast together, and tackle some new dishes we had never made before. One of the nights, we took on home made alfredo sauce, and I remember thinking that it was so incredibly simple. It takes 4 ingredients, 5 minutes, and not a whole lot of effort to create a fantastic sauce.
I was feeling nostalgic lately, so I decided to recreate this dish for my daughter and husband, and it is still a hit! And more importantly, it is still super easy, which is perfect for a week night.
Home Made Alfredo Sauce
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1.5 cups freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano (you can use Parmesan, but the reggiano is better)
Melt unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add in garlic and saute for about 30 seconds, until fragrant. Slowly whisk in heavy cream, then cheese, stirring well after each addition. Continue heating and stirring until cheese is melted.

Wow! I didn’t think making your own alfredo sauce could be so simple! I’ve been having to not make shrimp alfredo because I didn’t want to buy the processed stuff. This will be so useful in the future! 🙂
